September 21 update

While progress was being made in the attic rot was
discovered under the front porch floor.

Rick cleans up the remaining
debris from the old plaster in
the attic.

All fireplaces in the manse are now converted to gas logs which require
no chimney. Thus the existing chimney
in the attic can be removed creating additional living space.

This shows the plaster and lath removed from this side
of the attic wall. On the other side it will remain, as pencil comments from previous pastors and their families will be preserved.

When the column on the front porch was
removed not only was rot found but part
of the column beneath crumbled. Here
it has been re-pointed and is again ready
to bear the weight of the porch.

To do the repairs the weight of the porch had to be
lifted to allow new beams to be
inserted and to allow work underneath
the porch to proceed safely.

Then the rot could be cut out
and solid new wood matched in to replace it.
