historic sanctuary rededicated 2003

In 2002 the congregation embarked upon a major restoration effort. Among
the things done were:

  • rebuilding and stabilizing the foundations, treating for termite prevention

  • rebuilding joists and sills fixing rot, water damage, and insect damage

  • completely rebuilding and restoring windows and doors leveling and
    rebuilding steps

  • re-plasteringinterior historic sanctuary, restoration of trim work

  • restoring the original pulpit with its
    beautiful curving stairs

  • removing the more recent choir loft
and restoring the area it had occupied

  • organ and choir loft at the rear created
by reconnecting the two side balconies
    and extending it forward

  • restoring the balconies

  • restoring the pews, modifying the backs

  • painting, carpeting, & cushions for pews

  • improving handicapped access

  • complete HVAC upgrade

  • new security and lighting

  • new Allen Renaissance organ

  • hand rails suitable to the age of the
    building on front steps

  • insulation

  • period replications of a central communion table and flower stands

  • period replications of porch lighting and all door hinges, locks and pew latches

The Sanctuary occupies approx. 3800 sq ft and can seat approx. 320.

This restoration was lovingly done through donations of the
congregation, community and friends across the country. The entire
$750,000 was raised and the loans were paid off early.
With similar help the more modest $375,000 goal for restoration of the
historic manse should soon be in hand.
