May 24, 2008 update

This week saw our crew pressing forward on the cabinets,
while preparing for the front stairs...

Faced with dozens of cabinets, all
needing to be masked and cleaned
before spray painting began volunteers
pitched in on a Saturday work day.

With that accomplished, as a new week
began so did the spray painting process.
The first coat went on in a foggy
atmosphere where everything
turned white, including the painters
and the camera lens.

Kelly and Mike took turns being
careful to keep the layers smooth
and thin. Even so, the next excruciating
step to be faced was sanding everything
they'd just painted.

The easiest part of that process was the doors, but the sheer number was daunting. Inside the cabinets, around the glides, often working upside down, it was the slow and difficult part. It should be noted that Pat was off
this week at a convention in Myrtle Beach... good planning Pat!

And least it be thought that only the
kitchen cabinets are receiving attention,
this week also saw the downstairs bathroom
cabinet painted as well.

Meanwhile, outside, one lone volunteer
responded to last week's plea for help to
clean bricks for the steps. To speed things
up late in the week some help was hired
and we expect the brick masons to start on
the front steps early next week.
