A week later most of the sub-floor is down.
The frame is tied down with metal and bolts.
A window has been torn out, rebuilt, and reinstalled.
The entire kitchen back wall has been removed and then
temporarily covered.  This has revealed the need for some
structural reinforcing to support new
 weight above the back wall.

Tie downs anchor the frame
to every pier.

Looking from the kitchen out onto the
new addition.

Pat reworks a window to
be moved.

The process of tying the
frame to the posts is exhaustive but critical. Its particularly tough
when you're drilling through
a hardened screw on the other side you didn't know about.

Charley Watson, Edisto's resident
structural engineer, has played a key
role in making sure the restored and
renovated Manse will stand for
another 169 years. Michael has
called upon him regularly.

Until Charley's latest list of structural reinforcements are taken care of, and
the new addition is further along,
the kitchen wall is temporarily closed.
