April 25th  update

Things are happening upstairs, downstairs, inside and out.

In the attic and on the second floor the
painters were preparing for the finishing
coats. Additional primer coats and prep work was being done.

While downstairs our crew was doing much
the same thing... filling nail holes, caulking,
and eliminating blemishes that would
 mar the final product.

The new cabinets for the family room and kitchen arrived and began to be put in place. This is in the kitchen next to the fireplace.

Here more of the cabinets are shown.
Custom designed these cabinets will provide storage unknown in most old homes.

You may remember that the door from the den
into the back of the house was moved. This
picture shows the repairs to the wall wainscoting.

Meanwhile, outside,  volunteers pruned the large azaleas and camellias that grace the grounds. Long overdue, the effort is
to renew this important part of what
makes the manse so special.

When we went by on Thursday, we found Mike looking at these
pieces of rock.  They are the samples for the granite counter tops.
When asked which one he liked he grinned.  He allowed as to how the ladies would be making that decision.

Perhaps the most obvious change  this week is that the old
wooden stairs were moved to allow construction of
the new brick stairs. Under the old stairs a red brick pad
was found. Were the original stairs brick, not wood?
If you know please tell us!
